GROWS ON YOU - Grow On Somebody or Something
Jen: You’re eating kimchi? I thought you didn’t like it at all!
Jason: I didn’t like it when I first tried it. However after eating it a couple of more times, it has grown on me.
Jen: I knew the taste of kimchi would grow on you someday.
Grow on you 는 무언가가 점점 좋아진다’는 뜻입니다. 그리고 누군가가 점점 좋아질 때도 ‘grow on (somebody)’라는 표현을 쓸 수 있습니다. Jason은 원래 김치를 좋아하지 않았는데요, 오늘 본문에서 제가 Jason이 김치를 먹는 모습을 보고 놀랍니다. 그러자 Jason이 처음 먹어봤을 때는 좋아하지 않았지만, 몇 번 더 먹으니까 점점 좋아하게 됐다고 말합니다. “ I didn’t like it when I first tried it. However after eating it a couple of more times, it has grown on me.”라고요. 이렇게 무언가 또는 누군가가 점점 좋아질 때 쓸 수 있는 표현이 바로 ‘grow on you’입니다.
Now let me give you some example sentences using today’s expression. “The new plan that Steve came up with grew on me as I thought about it more.”라는 문장을 해석하면 “좀 더 생각해보니까, Steve가 제안한 새 계획도 점점 마음에 들어.” 라는 뜻입니다. Here is another example sentence. “Korean food is growing on me.”는 “한국 음식이 점점 더 좋아져.” 라고 해석할 수 있습니다.
