The Mind’s Storage
I hung a bunch of half-dry croakers
Over the north veranda
Several hours later
The mind that should be vacant by now is still weighty.
As I open my eyes to check the progress of practice
The old memories that disappeared from mere sight
Are implacably clinging to the wall of the mind’s storage.
They will not go easily by gentle coaxing.
I take out the croaker that dallies with the wind,
And scrub harshly with salt
The warped face of attachment.
On days I wrestled with croakers
Only the clumps of the torn flesh waved in the wind.
Meditation is none other than false imagery,
The wind stirs again.
